Brett Graff (The Home Economist & Author of Not Buying It)

Brett Graff explains why she believes her book, Not Buying It, is so important because it brings solid research and pits it against the constant barrage of marketing and advertising tell parents to buy buy buy. She talks about how very few people talk about the negative aspect of consumerism and excess as it relates to raising children. She uses the example of educational toys to illustrate her point, explaining that what child experts and pediatricians would really like to see are children that are using their brains to create games and different kinds of play instead of the use of electronic games with blinking lights that may delay language and interfere with the parent-child relationship.
