These qualities include Personal, Behavioral, Influential, Unconventional and Perpetual. According to Conley, the business world is changing and leaders need to move past institutional thinking to embrace a marketing and brand message that is unique and appealing to consumers in a personal way.

Lucas Conley is the executive editor at The Legacy Lab, the author of Obsessive Branding Disorder (one of Strategy + Business’s best books of 2008), and the coauthor of The Method Method (listed as a “top ten” marketing book in 2011 by Advertising Age).
